BOSTON — A 29-year-old Boston man was arrested Wednesday on firearm and breaking and entering charges after a foot chase in Roxbury.
Rodi Santana Sota was taken into custody by officers assigned to District B-2 following an incident that began around 1:57 p.m. near 528 Blue Hill Avenue.
A detail officer was notified of an individual sleeping in an alley and requested assistance from responding units.
Officers asked the individual to gather his belongings and leave the area.
During a subsequent investigation, officers conducted a pat frisk of the suspect, but he continued to move his hands and refused to comply with orders.
The suspect was seen reaching for an unknown item before running from officers.
A foot chase ensued, but the suspect initially escaped.
Officers located a discarded bag along the suspect’s flight path and recovered a firearm from inside.
Police broadcast the suspect’s description and direction of flight.
The suspect was observed running toward 580 Blue Hill Avenue, where officers were alerted that he had entered the building.
Officers established a perimeter and located the suspect as he attempted to walk out the front door.
Officers assigned to the Youth Violence Strike Force assisted in the search and observed a discarded fanny pack in the backyard.
A search of the bag revealed a second firearm, determined to be a Smith & Wesson 1911 with a defaced serial number and five rounds in the magazine.
Santana-Soto is expected to be arraigned in Dorchester District Court on charges of carrying a firearm without a license and breaking and entering for a misdemeanor.
