EAST HAVEN — East Haven Police units were dispatched to the area of 500 Main Street at approximately 10:22 p.m. Tuesday for a report of a domestic-related disturbance involving the discharge of a firearm.
Officers determined that a domestic dispute between two individuals had escalated into a physical altercation.
During the incident, a third party arrived on scene and allegedly assaulted and attempted to strike one of the individuals, Romario Lyle, 29, with a heavy wooden object.
Lyle, who is a legal gun owner in possession of a legally registered handgun, discharged one round, striking the third party.
The third party sustained non-life-threatening injuries, was treated on scene by East Haven Fire Department medics, and transported to Yale New Haven Hospital for further treatment.
That individual has since been released.
No other injuries were reported during this incident.
Following the investigation, Lyle, of 500 Main Street, East Haven, was arrested on domestic-related charges stemming from the original dispute.
He was charged with assault in the third degree and disorderly conduct.
Lyle was held on a $10,000 surety bond and is scheduled to appear in New Haven Superior Court Tuesday.
The circumstances surrounding the firearm discharge were evaluated on scene.
No firearms-related charges have been filed at this time.
The investigation remains open and ongoing.
