HOLYOKE — Holyoke police arrested a 40-year-old man Monday in connection with a stabbing that occurred the day before.
Carlos Javier Caraballo was taken into custody around noon Monday after officers spotted him in the area of South Canal and Cabot streets.
The stabbing occurred Sunday around 8:20 a.m. in the area of Chestnut Street and Appleton Street.
Officer Andrew Urbanski responded to 435 Appleton Street for a report of a stabbing.
Detective David Seidel and Officer James Kennedy arrived on scene and provided first aid to the adult male victim along with Urbanski.
The victim was transported to a local hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.
The victim ran to 435 Appleton Street to get away from the suspect and call 911, police said.
Officer Eric Rodriguez was patrolling when he observed Caraballo, who also had two outstanding arrest warrants.
Caraballo rode off on his bicycle and officers located him on Hamilton Street.
The suspect crashed his bike into a parked cruiser and attempted to run away.
Detective James Parnell and Rodriguez caught up to Caraballo on Hamilton Street and took him into custody.
Caraballo is charged with assault to murder, assault and battery with a dangerous weapon causing serious bodily injury, armed assault to rob, resisting arrest and two arrest warrants.
