NEW HARTFORD — A 13-year-old male juvenile has been charged with felony possession of stolen property following two vehicle pursuits with police.
The New Hartford Police Department responded to Sangertown Mall on Aug. 1 for a report of a vehicle operating in an unsafe manner, including performing spinouts and burnouts.
An officer attempted to stop the vehicle, but it fled.
During the pursuit, police determined the vehicle was stolen from Lee Center, New York.
The pursuit was discontinued when it became unsafe to continue.
At approximately 12 a.m. on Aug. 2, a New Hartford Police sergeant on patrol identified what appeared to be the same vehicle parked in the Cliffs Parking Lot on Genesee Street.
As the sergeant attempted to confirm the vehicle was the stolen car and identify the operator, the vehicle fled again.
Police say the stolen vehicle and operator are suspected of being involved in other similar incidents of reckless operation in the area.
Through investigation, police confirmed the vehicle was stolen and identified the suspect as a 13-year-old male juvenile.
The juvenile was located at a residence in Utica with a parent and charged with one count of criminal possession of stolen property, a Class E felony.
The 13-year-old was processed and released to his parent’s custody with an appearance ticket.
He will answer the charge at the Oneida County Probation Department at a later date.
Additional charges are pending.
