SARANAC LAKE — New York State Police were notified of a possible drowning incident on Saranac Lake on Aug. 21 at approximately 5:55 p.m.
An investigation revealed that John D. Cogar, 76, of Saranac Lake, jumped into the lake just north of Eagle Island in the town of Harrietstown but did not resurface.
The New York State Police Underwater Recovery Team, along with the New York State Department of Environmental Conservation and local fire and rescue teams, conducted an active search for Cogar in the water.
On Aug. 24, members of the Underwater Recovery Team located Cogar deceased in the water.
Police found no signs of foul play.
An autopsy has been scheduled, but the time has yet to be determined.
