ALBANY — The Albany Police Department is receiving several calls regarding scammers spoofing the police department’s phone number to make it appear as though the phone calls are coming directly from APD.
The phone number the scammers are using is (518) 462-8013.
The scammers may claim you owe money.
They may identify themselves as an officer of APD demanding arrest if you do not pay the amount owed.
The scammers demand payments through gift cards.
APD will not call you and demand payment over the phone.
APD will not ask for personal financial information over the phone.
Police advise residents to not provide any personal information over the phone.
If you receive a suspicious call, hang up.
