Holyoke police arrest man with loaded gun, cocaine

HOLYOKE — Holyoke police arrested a man with a loaded firearm and more than 12 grams of cocaine Friday night during a traffic enforcement operation.

Wilfredo Cosme, 63, of Holyoke was taken into custody around 9:25 p.m. in the area of Main Street and Spring Street.

Police Chief Brian Keenan announced the arrest Aug. 22.

Captain Matthew Welch, Sergeant Dustin Summers, Detective David Seidel and Officer James Kennedy were conducting ordinance and motor vehicle enforcement when Summers recognized Cosme as the driver of a vehicle.

Cosme had been arrested the day prior in Holyoke for operating a motor vehicle with a suspended license.

Knowing Cosme was not allowed to drive, Summers and Officer Kennedy approached him after he parked in a parking lot.

While placing Cosme under arrest, Summers located a loaded firearm in his waistband.

Welch and Seidel arrived to assist in placing Cosme into custody.

Seidel recovered 18 bags of cocaine weighing approximately 12.3 grams from Cosme.

Cosme is charged with carrying a firearm without a license, possession of ammunition without an FID card, unlicensed operation of a motor vehicle, possession with intent to distribute a Class B drug, and possession of a Class B drug.
