Roxbury man arrested in early morning shooting

BOSTON — A 26-year-old Charlestown man has been arrested in connection with a shooting that wounded a woman in Roxbury early Friday morning.

Officers assigned to District B-2 responded to the area of 94 Crawford Street at about 3:02 a.m. Friday for a report of a person shot.

Upon arrival, officers located an adult female victim suffering from a gunshot wound.

Boston EMS transported the victim to a local hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

District B-2 detectives determined the identity of the shooter and that he fled the area in a motor vehicle after further investigation.

A description of the suspect and the vehicle were broadcast to all officers, and the vehicle was located in the area of 140 Wellington Hill.

Officers observed multiple shell casings inside the vehicle, and it was towed from the scene.

Detectives made contact with the suspect and placed him under arrest.

An apartment was secured pending a search warrant.

Willieyer Barkon, 26, of Charlestown, is expected to be arraigned in Roxbury District Court on charges including armed assault with intent to murder, assault and battery by means of a firearm, unlawful possession of a firearm, carrying a loaded firearm, unlawful possession of ammunition, possession of a firearm in the commission of a felony, discharging a firearm within 500 feet of a dwelling, and intentional or reckless discharge of a firearm striking a dwelling.
