Syracuse woman dies in head-on crash in Camillus

CAMILLUS — State Police responded to a report of a serious motor vehicle crash on West Genesee Street Aug. 20 at approximately 11:10 a.m.

A preliminary investigation revealed that a 2025 Chevrolet Trax, operated by Darlene A. Cushman, age 74, of Syracuse, was traveling eastbound when it crossed the center line and sideswiped a 2014 Toyota Sienna operated by Gabriel M. Cortesnieves, age 38, of Syracuse.

The Chevrolet then continued into the westbound lane and struck a 2020 BMW 330 Series, operated by Adam R. Mere, age 16, of Syracuse, head-on.

Cushman was pronounced deceased at the scene.

Adam R. Mere and his passenger, Leanna M. Mere, age 15, of Syracuse, were both transported to Upstate University Hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

Cortesnieves and his passenger, Itchaneria Estradacruz, age 38, of Fulton, were both transported to Upstate University Hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

The New York State Police Collision Reconstruction Unit and Bureau of Criminal Investigation responded to assist at the scene.
