LIVINGSTON — A registered nurse from Latham has been charged with stealing controlled substances from a Columbia County nursing home and endangering residents by failing to administer their medications.
Edward Dwyer, 56, was arrested Aug. 20 following a joint investigation by New York State Police and the state Department of Health Bureau of Narcotics Enforcement.
The investigation began July 26 when Livingston Hills Nursing and Rehabilitation Center reported missing narcotic medications from their facility.
Investigators determined Dwyer unlawfully took possession of controlled substances on multiple occasions without properly administering the medications to residents.
Dwyer faces one count of falsifying business records in the first degree, a class E felony.
He also was charged with 10 counts of endangering the welfare of an incompetent or physically disabled person in the first degree, also class E felonies.
Additional charges include three counts each of petit larceny, criminal possession of a controlled substance in the seventh degree, and obtaining a controlled substance by fraud, all class A misdemeanors.
Dwyer was processed and issued an appearance ticket returnable to Livingston Town Court on Sept. 11 at 6 p.m.
