POTSDAM — A Madrid woman was charged with felony drug possession after a traffic stop Aug. 18 yielded approximately one pound of cocaine.
Ashley R. Clark, 36, was charged with Criminal Possession of a Controlled Substance in the 1st Degree, a Class A felony, and Criminal Possession of a Controlled Substance in the 3rd Degree, a Class B felony, according to the Troop B – Violent Gangs and Narcotics Enforcement Team.
A 2017 Chevrolet Silverado was observed committing a traffic violation on State Highway 56 in the Town of Pierrepont and a traffic stop was conducted as it entered the town of Potsdam.
During the stop, Clark, who was the sole occupant, was interviewed and consented to a search of the truck.
A hand search of the vehicle yielded approximately 16 ounces of cocaine and several empty plastic bags consistent with narcotics sale.
Clark was arrested and transported to the State Police Barracks in Canton for processing.
She was arraigned in the Town of Pierrepont Court and remanded without bail to the St. Lawrence County Correctional Facility.
The St. Lawrence Sheriff’s Office, their K-9 assets, and the St. Lawrence Drug Task Force assisted with the investigation.
