AUBURN — A Worcester man was arrested following a multi-agency motor vehicle pursuit that began in Webster and ended in Worcester on Aug. 15.
At approximately 2:50 a.m., the Auburn Police Department was notified of an active motor vehicle pursuit initiated by the Webster Police Department on Interstate 395 northbound.
The suspect vehicle, a 2021 Infiniti Q50, was believed to have been stolen earlier in the evening and located in Webster on Main Street.
Sgt. Luis Santos and Officer Arek Garsiorski observed the vehicle traveling north on I-395 approaching I-290.
When officers attempted to stop the vehicle, it fled at a high rate of speed.
The Infiniti exited onto Route 12 and traveled through Auburn, where Officers Hawley, McLaughlin, and Montague also attempted to stop the vehicle.
The vehicle subsequently reentered I-290 and continued toward Worcester.
While on the highway, the operator attempted to strike both Auburn Police and Massachusetts State Police cruisers.
During the pursuit, the Infiniti rammed an Auburn Police cruiser before the operator abandoned the vehicle and fled on foot into Worcester.
The officers who were struck by the Infiniti were unharmed.
With the assistance of the Worcester Police Department and the Massachusetts State Police, the suspect was located and taken into custody following a foot pursuit.
The suspect was identified as 19-year-old Samuel Mccausland of Worcester.
Mccausland was charged with receiving a stolen motor vehicle, failure to stop for police, assault and battery with a dangerous weapon (motor vehicle) on two counts, negligent operation of a motor vehicle, malicious destruction of property, possession of burglarious tools, receiving stolen property, disorderly conduct and resisting arrest.
He also faces multiple motor vehicle violations arising from the pursuit.
Mccausland was arraigned in Worcester District Court and is being held at the Worcester County House of Corrections.
