Newburgh fatal crash under investigation after head-on collision

NEWBURGH — A fatal traffic crash is under investigation after a Porsche sedan and a tractor-trailer collided head-on Wednesday morning in Newburgh.

At approximately 11:55 a.m. Wednesday, deputies responded to a report of a serious crash on Route 69 near the Route 202 intersection.

Deputies found a 2014 Porsche sedan had collided head-on with a 2015 Volvo tractor-trailer, which was loaded with junk metal.

Preliminary reports indicate the Porsche was traveling west when it crossed the centerline on a curve, striking the tractor-trailer.

The impact caused the tractor-trailer to leave the roadway and strike a residential garage.

The male driver of the sedan was pronounced dead at the scene.

A dog in the vehicle was transported to a local veterinarian but died during the transport.

The male driver of the tractor-trailer was not injured in the crash.

The Penobscot County Sheriff’s Office conducted the investigation, assisted by reconstruction specialists, a drone team, and the Maine State Police Commercial Vehicle Unit.

The Newburgh and Carmel fire departments and the Maine Department of Transportation also responded to the scene.

The identities of those involved are not being released at this time pending further investigation.
