STILLWATER — The Saratoga County Sheriff’s Office arrested a 28-year-old man Monday on multiple weapon and drug charges following an accidental shooting incident.
Matthew R. Flanagan of Stillwater was charged with three counts of criminal possession of a weapon in the 3rd degree, criminal possession of a firearm and criminal possession of a controlled substance in the 7th degree.
Deputies responded to a call of an accidental discharge of a firearm with self-inflicted injury at 2:52 a.m. Saturday on Donnelly Avenue in Stillwater.
Flanagan is accused of possessing two assault weapons, a large capacity ammunition feeding device and a pistol without being licensed to possess it.
He is also charged with knowingly and unlawfully possessing methamphetamine.
Flanagan had reportedly been cleaning the unlicensed pistol and believed it to be unloaded when he accidentally discharged a round that struck his hand and injured it.
He was arraigned before the Honorable Ellwood A. Sloat Jr. in Malta Town Court and released on his own recognizance pending further proceedings in Stillwater Town Court.
The weapon possession charges are felonies, while the drug charge is a misdemeanor.
