AUBURN — A man was arrested Monday night after allegedly attacking another person with a hammer and attempting to force his way into an apartment on Grover Street.
Officers responded to 7 Grover St. at approximately 9:46 p.m. Aug. 18 after receiving a report that someone had thrown a hammer and was trying to get inside a residence.
The victim told police that a man had hit him with a hammer, swung the weapon at him and attempted to push his way into the apartment.
The victim said he was able to escape from the attacker, lock his door and call police.
The suspect had fled the scene before officers arrived.
The victim identified the suspect as Michael Tillman and provided a description to officers.
Police quickly apprehended Tillman on Loop Road near Wegmans shortly after the initial response.
Tillman was arrested and transported to Auburn Police Department headquarters.
He was processed and then transported to Cayuga County Jail, where he was held pending arraignment.
Tillman was charged with harassment in the second degree and criminal possession of a weapon in the third degree.
