BOSTON — Dorchester officers arrested a 21-year-old Hyde Park man on firearm-related charges following a pursuit in the Fields Corner neighborhood early Monday morning.
Police arrested Roger Estrada after officers attempted to stop a red dirt bike that matched the description of a suspect vehicle fleeing a ShotSpotter activation at 116 Talbot Avenue at approximately 2:48 a.m. Aug. 18.
The driver and passenger fell off the bike near Quincy Street and Clarkson Street, causing both to flee in separate directions.
Officers located the passenger, identified as Estrada, hiding under a vehicle on Barry Park.
Estrada was suffering from a gunshot wound and was transported to a local hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.
Dorchester detectives recovered a gray backpack in the roadway near Adams Street and Robinson Street.
Inside the backpack, police found a black Glock handgun with an extended magazine, a firearm “switch” allowing automatic fire, and an obliterated serial number.
The gun was loaded with one round in the chamber and 29 rounds in the magazine, which has a capacity of 40.
Police also found a credit card bearing Estrada’s name and a pill bottle containing three small white pills marked “K 18,” believed to be Oxycodone.
Estrada is expected to be arraigned in Dorchester District Court on charges including unlawful possession of a firearm, unlawful possession of a machine gun, unlawful possession of a large-capacity feeding device, possession of a firearm with an obliterated serial number, unlawful possession of ammunition and possession of a Class B substance.
