ROXBURY — Police arrested an 18-year-old man on multiple firearm charges after recovering a loaded weapon during a traffic stop Monday evening.

Officers assigned to District B-2 arrested Jamel Abreu of Roxbury at about 5:10 p.m. on Warren Street.

Police initiated the traffic stop after observing a vehicle enter the intersection at Dale Street as the traffic signal was turning yellow, then stop completely in the middle of the intersection as the light turned red, causing gridlock.

Officers conducted the stop at Dale Street and Sherman Street.

During contact with the vehicle’s occupants, police observed a large bulge consistent with a firearm handle protruding from the front passenger’s waistband.

The passenger, later identified as Abreu, could not provide a driver’s license when requested.

Officers ordered Abreu to exit the vehicle and conducted a pat frisk, immediately recovering a firearm from his waistband.

District B-2 detectives processed the weapon, which was identified as a Geisler semi-automatic pistol with no serial number and 17 rounds in the magazine.

Abreu is expected to be arraigned in Roxbury District Court on charges of carrying a firearm without a license, possession of ammunition without an FID card, carrying a loaded firearm without a license, and possession of a large capacity firearm.
