NEW HAMPTON — Derrick A. Poirier, 34, of New Hampton was found guilty on 13 charges Thursday, concluding a multi-year investigation that resulted in over $16,000 in fines.
In two separate trials, Poirier was found guilty of seven charges of receiving stolen property involving trail cameras, illegal night hunting, two charges of hunting without a valid license, two charges of hunting after suspension and one charge of failing to have his name and contact information on a trail camera.
The charges stemmed from a Thanksgiving Day incident in 2024 involving Poirier that led to conservation officers pursuing him for over 5 miles while he illegally hunted during a heavy snowstorm.
During the investigation, seven cellular trail cameras belonging to five victims were recovered from Poirier’s residence.
Poirier had previously been tried and convicted in Laconia District Court for multiple poaching incidents in 2023 and 2024.
The incidents include crimes committed on Dec. 26, 2024, after Poirier was released from the Belknap Department of Corrections.
Those cases involved multiple charges of hunting without a license, hunting after suspension, hunting during the closed season, interference with a conservation officer, illegal possession of a deer, trespassing and numerous other violation level charges.
New Hampshire Fish & Game Law Enforcement Division was assisted during the investigations by the New Hampton Police Department, Bristol Police Department, Lincoln Police Department, Grafton County Sheriff’s Office and the Belknap County Sheriff’s Office.
In total, Poirier has been fined over $16,000 in fines and penalty assessments in the five cases.
