COHOES — A 93-year-old man died after being struck by a vehicle that fled the scene Monday morning at Newark Street and Congress Street.
Charles Allendorph was found lying in the roadway with visible injuries when Cohoes police arrived at approximately 9:44 a.m.
Allendorph was transported to Albany Medical Center, where he later died from his injuries.
Officers used witness statements to quickly identify the suspect vehicle and shared information with surrounding law enforcement agencies.
Albany Police Department located the unoccupied suspect vehicle within one hour and it was seized as evidence by Cohoes police.
The suspect was found in Albany at approximately 4:00 p.m. after he attempted to report his vehicle stolen.
Kemaury T. Everett, 19, of Albany, was charged with manslaughter in the second degree and leaving the scene of an accident resulting in death.
Everett was arraigned at 9:00 a.m. Tuesday in Cohoes City Court by Judge Galarneau and remanded to Albany County Correctional Facility without bail.
The New York State Police Collision Reconstruction Unit and Albany Police Department assisted in the investigation.
