COVENTRY — A 23-year-old Barton man was arrested on suspicion of driving under the influence after a two-vehicle crash on Vermont Route 14 on Aug. 15.
Gerald Davignon was traveling south on Route 14 at approximately 6:51 p.m. when his 2014 Dodge Ram crossed the center line and struck the left side of a northbound 2023 Lexus GX, according to Vermont State Police.
The Lexus was operated by Vipin Valayanad, 47, of Glastonbury, Connecticut, who was traveling to Jay Peak at approximately 50 mph.
Valayanad told police he was unable to avoid the crash due to a guardrail on the right shoulder.
Davignon reported not knowing what happened and said he was wearing his seatbelt and traveling the speed limit.
During the investigation, police determined Davignon was in violation of court-ordered conditions and displayed signs of impairment.
Davignon sustained minor, non-life-threatening injuries in the crash.
Valayanad was not injured.
Both vehicles sustained moderate damage.
Davignon was processed at the Derby Barracks and charged with DUI third offense, violation of conditions of release and negligent operation.
He was lodged at Northern State Correctional Facility on a violation of probation.
The crash occurred during clear daylight conditions on dry pavement.
