NEW HARTFORD — Three juveniles have been charged in connection with a burglary at the Target store located at Sangertown Square Mall.

New Hartford Police responded to the store on Thursday, Aug. 14, for a reported burglary.

Upon arrival, police received a report from the store loss prevention officer that three juveniles had remained inside the store after closing and stole various pieces of merchandise before fleeing.

During the investigation, officers processed the scene and obtained evidence indicating the identity of the suspects.

On Saturday afternoon, an off-duty New Hartford Police investigator identified one of the three suspects after observing the suspect on Kellogg Road.

The investigator contacted on-duty police officers, and an arrest was made at that time.

With the assistance of the New Hartford Police drone and K9 units, the two remaining suspects were located on Sunday, Aug. 17, and taken into custody in a wooded area behind Walgreens in Washington Mills after being found in a tent.

Police determined that two of the juveniles had run away from their homes prior to the Target incident and were being sought in regard to that.

The three juveniles were each charged with burglary in the third degree, a felony, and petit larceny, a misdemeanor.

All three were issued appearance tickets to appear in Oneida County Youth Part Court and returned to their parents.
