BOSTON — Two male juveniles, ages 14 and 13, were arrested on firearm-related charges following a ShotSpotter activation in Dorchester early Saturday morning.

Officers from District B-3 responded to the alert at approximately 1:35 a.m. in the area of 126 Gallivan Boulevard on Aug. 16.

Police observed a blue scooter traveling at high speed on Washington Street from the Gallivan Boulevard area, occupied by two males who were not wearing helmets.

The 14-year-old operator was described as heavyset, wearing a black hooded sweatshirt, black pants, and a camouflage ski mask on top of his head.

The 13-year-old passenger was wearing a shiny silver jacket with matching pants and a black ski mask covering his face.

When officers attempted to stop the scooter on Croftland Avenue with lights and sirens, the suspects fled onto the sidewalk and evaded capture.

Officers proceeded to the ShotSpotter location at 126 Gallivan Boulevard, where they collected ballistic evidence and reviewed video surveillance.

The footage showed two individuals firing a firearm, confirmed to be the same juveniles seen on the scooter.

Officers resumed canvassing the area and located four juveniles outside the William Henderson School on Croftland Avenue.

The 13-year-old suspect was observed behind a fence searching the ground and was immediately detained.

The 14-year-old suspect was found hiding nearby in hedges.

A pat frisk of the 13-year-old recovered a live .38 caliber round.

Officers conducted a thorough search due to the proximity to a school and risk to public safety.

A silver Smith & Wesson .357 Magnum revolver with a black grip was discovered jammed inside hedges next to where the 14-year-old had been hiding.

The cylinder contained four discharged .38 caliber cartridges, consistent with the round recovered from the younger suspect’s pocket.

Both juveniles are expected to be arraigned in Dorchester District Court on charges including unlawful possession of a firearm, unlawful possession of ammunition, unlawful possession of a loaded firearm, and discharging a firearm within 500 feet of a dwelling.
