CANTERBURY — A Massachusetts man was arrested for driving the wrong-way while intoxicated on Interstate 93 early Sunday morning.
At 12:16 a.m. on Aug. 17, State Police dispatch started receiving multiple reports of a wrong-way driver on Interstate 93 southbound in Northfield.
Troopers from the Troop D barracks responded to the area and located a silver 2016 Subaru Crosstrek pulled over to the left shoulder of the road, facing the wrong way, by mile marker 50.6 in Canterbury.
It was determined later that the driver of the vehicle had pulled over due to running out of gas.
There was no one around the Subaru at the time the troopers arrived on scene.
During the investigation, Trooper Zavala located a man in the median wood line, who, when commanded to do so, exited the woods.
The troopers observed that man had fallen while running through the woods, sustaining a laceration above his right eye.
They offered medical attention on scene, which he declined.
The man was then identified as James McGillicuddy, 35, of Medford, Massachusetts.
McGillicuddy identified himself as the driver and sole occupant of the Subaru.
McGillicuddy was arrested for charges of DUI and reckless conduct.
He is being held on preventive detention in Merrimack County Jail pending his arraignment in Concord District Court on Monday, Aug. 18.
