Monroe man drowns at Walton Lake after falling from paddle board

MONROE — A 36-year-old Plainview man died Saturday after falling from an inflatable paddle board at Walton Lake and struggling in the water.

Mohammadsadegh Kiani was sitting alone on a yellow inflatable paddle board approximately 40 feet from shore when he lost his balance and fell into water estimated to be 6 to 7 feet deep at approximately 3:50 p.m., according to New York State Police.

Kiani began to struggle in the water and did not resurface.

Several patrons from the American Legion Post located directly across the street responded to the incident.

The patrons removed Kiani from the water and immediately began life-saving measures, continuing until EMS personnel and state troopers arrived.

Kiani was transported to Garnet Health Medical Center in critical condition.

Despite extensive resuscitative efforts, he later died from his injuries.

The drowning occurred in the area of Lakes Road and Sergio Lane in the Town of Monroe, Orange County.

Kiani had traveled to Walton Lake to spend the day with friends, according to the preliminary investigation.

Police determined the drowning was accidental with no foul play suspected.

State Police were assisted by the Orange County Sheriff’s Office and the Town of Chester Police Department.
