Teen driver hits motorcyclist at Homer intersection

HOMER — An 18-year-old female driver collided with a motorcycle after running a red light at the intersection of South West Street and Cayuga Street on Aug. 17 at 10:47 a.m., according to Homer Police Department.

The driver was traveling westbound on Cayuga Street when she struck a motorcycle operated by a 68-year-old Syracuse man who was traveling southbound on South West Street.

Witnesses and surveillance video from a local business showed the motor vehicle failed to stop at a red light and failed to yield the right of way to the motorcycle.

A witness reported seeing the car’s operator using a cell phone at the time of the collision.

The motorcyclist was transported by TLC Ambulance to Upstate Hospital in Syracuse with serious but not life-threatening injuries.

The driver received traffic citations for passing a red light, failing to yield right of way at an intersection and operating a motor vehicle while using a cell phone.

Police are not releasing the names of either operator.

Homer Police were assisted by New York State Police, Homer Fire Department and TLC Ambulance.
