Clarkstown driver hits pedestrian on Interstate 87, man found dead

CLARKSTOWN — Troopers from SP Haverstraw responded to a report of a disabled vehicle near Exit 6 of the Palisades Interstate Parkway southbound in the town of Clarkstown on Aug. 15 at approximately 1:10 a.m.

When troopers arrived, a 2007 Honda Civic was observed with heavy damage to the front passenger side bumper, hood, and windshield.

While interviewing the driver, identified as Jossue L. Rodas Pena, 24, of Sparkhill, it was determined that while traveling on Interstate 87 northbound, he struck an unknown object and then proceeded to get onto the Palisades Parkway southbound, where his vehicle became disabled.

During the investigation, the body of a deceased male was located on Interstate 87 northbound beneath a guiderail on the right shoulder of the roadway.

Spring Valley EMS responded to the scene and were unable to provide any lifesaving treatment.

Rodas Pena was taken to Nyack Hospital for evaluation then transported to SP Haverstraw for further interview.

Troop F Bureau of Criminal Investigation and Collision Reconstruction Unit responded to the scene to assist with the investigation.

Release of the decedent’s identity is pending next of kin notification.

At this time no charges have been filed, and the investigation is ongoing.
