NYC murder suspect arrested in Utica, damages police car

UTICA — A 25-year-old New York City man wanted for murder was arrested Aug. 14 at a residence on the 900 block of Downer Avenue.

Daishaughn Hodge was wanted in connection with a homicide that occurred Aug. 1 in Brooklyn.

Members of the U.S. Marshals Regional Fugitive Task Force conducted the operation, comprising U.S. Marshals, Utica Police, Oneida County Sheriff, Oneida County Probation, New York State Police and New Hartford Police personnel.

NYPD warrants detectives also participated in the operation.

Officers arrested Hodge after making entry into the location.

During a search following his arrest, officers found a loaded .45 caliber handgun hidden in his waistband.

Hodge was placed in a Utica Police patrol vehicle for transport.

While in the backseat, Hodge repeatedly kicked the back door in an effort to damage it.

The kicking continued throughout the transport, causing the door to come loose from the frame.

The damage is estimated at thousands of dollars.

At the Utica Police Department, Hodge was charged with criminal possession of a weapon in the second degree, criminal possession of a weapon in the third degree, criminal possession of a firearm and criminal mischief in the third degree.
