BEDFORD — The Bedford Police Department announced the sentencing of two men in separate federal cases this week involving child sexual abuse and fraud schemes.

John Lord, 40, of Arizona, was sentenced to 15 years in prison and 10 years supervised release after being arrested by Bedford detectives on Aug. 30, 2023.

Lord was charged with engaging in sexual acts with a 15-year-old boy in a wooded area of Katonah earlier that day.

The FBI also charged Lord with persuading, inducing, enticing and coercing the child to engage in sexual activity.

In a separate case, Jinguan Li, 48, of Brooklyn, N.Y., was arrested by Bedford detectives on April 19, 2024, in connection with a fraud scheme.

Li was arrested after a Bedford resident was scammed out of $28,000 following a fake “Microsoft” pop-up alert on their laptop on April 18.

Li and accomplices attempted to scam the same resident the next day for an additional $50,000, but Bedford detectives were working with the victim.

Detectives apprehended Li when he arrived at the home to collect the money.

A search warrant of Li’s vehicle yielded $50,000 in cash that was determined to be proceeds from another scam outside Westchester County.

A search of Li’s cell phone revealed evidence of multiple fraud schemes, which was shared with the FBI and NYPD’s Organized Crime Task Force.

Court documents unsealed in federal court last week indicted two additional men for participating in schemes that attempted to steal over $18 million from more than 350 victims.

Both cases were enhanced by the Federal Bureau of Investigation and prosecuted by the U.S. Attorney’s Office in the Southern District of New York.
