Meriden man arrested on warrant after brief foot chase

1 min read

MERIDEN — Members of the Crime Suppression Unit observed Donnie Andrews seated in a parking lot in the area of St. Casimir Drive on Wednesday.

Andrews, 32, of 13 Carpenter Avenue, had an outstanding warrant and was arrested by the same unit two weeks prior for possession of narcotics and possession of narcotics with intent to sell.

As detectives approached Andrews on foot, an individual with him alerted Andrews to their presence.

When Andrews rose to his feet to run, detectives observed what they believed to be a clear plastic baggie filled with a white rocklike substance consistent with crack cocaine in his lap.

Andrews fled on foot but was apprehended after a brief foot chase.

Once apprehended, Andrews was no longer in possession of the baggie.

A search of the area was unsuccessful, and detectives believe Andrews discarded the baggie either as he rose to his feet or while running.

Andrews was charged with violation of probation and posted his court-set bond of $50,000.

He was assigned a court date for Aug. 27.
