2 arrested on drug, warrant charges in Scituate

SCITUATE — Rhode Island State Police made two arrests Tuesday on separate charges including a bench warrant and drug possession.

At 9:30 a.m., troopers arrested Merffy Soto Tavarez, 22, of 83 Sackett Street, Providence, on a Sixth Division Court bench warrant for failure to appear on a summons.

The original charge was driving with a suspended, revoked or cancelled license from an offense originating with the Burrillville Police Department.

The arrest resulted from troopers responding to the Rhode Island Traffic Tribunal for a subject in custody.

Tavarez was transported to the State Police Scituate Barracks, processed and transported to Sixth Division District Court.

At 12:33 p.m., troopers arrested Kassondra Benonisen, 27, of 388 Vose Street, Apartment 1R, Woonsocket, for possession of a Schedule I to V controlled substance.

Police said Benonisen possessed 10 grams or less of hydrocodone.

The arrest resulted from a motor vehicle stop on Route 99 in Lincoln.

Benonisen was transported to State Police headquarters, processed and held as a probation and bail violator pending morning arraignment.
