LEICESTER — Sheriff Thomas J. Dougherty reports the arrest of a Geneseo resident on felony charges following an investigation into a motor vehicle crash.

On Aug. 10 at approximately 4:04 a.m., Livingston County Sheriff’s Deputy Hayden Strobel responded to the area of Cuylerville Road in the Town of Leicester for the report of a motor vehicle crash.

Contact was made with the operator of the vehicle, who was identified as 26-year-old Raul Morrell Jr. of Geneseo.

During the investigation, the Deputy observed indicators that Morrell was intoxicated.

The Deputy then conducted a DWI Investigation roadside, which included the performance of standardized field sobriety tests.

At the conclusion of the roadside investigation, Morrell was taken into custody for Driving While Intoxicated.

Morrell was transported to the Sheriff’s Office where he was offered a chemical breath test to determine his blood alcohol content.

Deputy Blake Fennell administered the test, which revealed that Morrell had a blood alcohol content of .09%.

A records check revealed that Morrell had a previous conviction for Driving While Ability Impaired by Drugs in 2021, making this arrest a felony.

It was also discovered that Morrell still had a Revoked New York State Driver’s License for his prior conviction of Driving While Ability Impaired by Drugs.

Morrell was charged with felony Driving While Intoxicated, felony Aggravated Unlicensed Operation of a Motor Vehicle in the First Degree and violations of the NYS Vehicle and Traffic Law.

Morrell was transported and turned over to Central Booking Deputies at the Livingston County Jail for arrest processing and pre-arraignment detention.

Morrell was later arraigned at the Livingston County Centralized Arraignment Part at the Livingston County Jail before Town of Lima Justice Harris.

The Judge did release Morrell on his own recognizance as the offenses do not qualify for bail under the NYS Bail Reform Act.
