HOLYOKE — A 40-year-old man has been arrested in connection with a car fire that occurred on Maple Street earlier this week.
Holyoke Police Chief Brian Keenan announced that officers and firefighters responded to the 200 block of Maple Street at approximately 6:30 a.m. Sunday for a report of a car fire.
Holyoke firefighters extinguished the blaze shortly after arrival.
Holyoke firefighters and Massachusetts State Police troopers assigned to the Fire Marshal’s office began investigating the incident.
State Police Arson K9 George alerted investigators to the presence of accelerants at the scene.
Investigators reviewed surveillance video that showed a suspect damaging the vehicle with a machete before placing an item inside the car.
A short time later, smoke became visible and the car caught fire, according to the video.
Holyoke Police detectives reviewing the footage identified the suspect as Jorge Ramos.
On Tuesday, Holyoke detectives and State Police troopers located Ramos around 2:00 p.m. on the 200 block of Maple Street and arrested him.
Ramos is charged with arson of personal property and injury/deface real or personal property.
