Syracuse police arrest man after ghost gun recovered in foot chase

SYRACUSE — Officers recovered a ghost gun Thursday after a brief foot chase that began with a report of a suspicious person with a weapon.

Officers Nish and Hood responded around 1:55 p.m. to the area of Midland Avenue and West Taylor Street.

When they arrived, they observed a male fitting the description of the suspicious person.

As the officers asked the male to come toward them, he fled on foot.

During the chase, the officers observed the male drop a firearm as he attempted to evade them.

The suspect, later identified as 33-year-old Jaquan Gilbert, was eventually taken into custody at a home on Temple Street.

Gilbert was charged with criminal possession of a firearm, criminal possession of a weapon in the second degree and criminal possession of a weapon in the third degree.

The firearm was identified as a Ghost Gun Polymer 80 9mm handgun with an extended magazine.
