NORWICH — A 51-year-old Plymouth woman was arrested Aug. 13 on charges of making a terroristic threat and falsely reporting an incident in connection with a bomb threat at a Norwich bank.

Thendara L. Hartwell was taken into custody at her residence without incident, according to the Chenango County Sheriff’s Office.

The charges stem from an Aug. 5 incident when the Chenango County 911 Center received a call around 1 p.m. from Community Bank on State Highway 23 reporting they had received a bomb threat from an anonymous phone number.

Sheriff’s deputies responded to the location and evacuated multiple businesses within the building.

A New York State Police explosives detection canine and bomb technician conducted a search of the entire premises and found no signs of explosive devices.

After the search, it was determined safe for the businesses to reopen.

An investigation and execution of a search warrant revealed that Hartwell made the threatening phone call from a blocked phone number, causing public alarm and inconvenience, according to authorities.

Hartwell was arraigned in Centralized Arraignment and remanded to the Chenango County Jail on $1,250 bail.

She faces charges of making a terroristic threat, a Class D felony, and falsely reporting an incident, a Class E felony.

The New York State Police assisted the Chenango County Sheriff’s Office at the scene.
