Sidney police seek hit-and-run driver after juvenile cyclist injured

SIDNEY — The Sidney Police Department received a complaint of a pedestrian being struck by a vehicle on West Main Street on Aug. 11 at approximately 8:46 p.m.

Upon arrival of officers it was learned that a juvenile was riding a bicycle on the sidewalk in a northerly direction.

The juvenile attempted to cross the Sherman Ave intersection using the crosswalk.

A vehicle traveling south on West Main Street made a right turn onto Sherman Ave at the same time the juvenile was crossing.

The vehicle struck the juvenile and did not stop.

The vehicle then traveled west on Sherman Ave and is believed to have made a right turn onto Union Street.

The juvenile was airlifted to Upstate Medical Center where they were treated for their injuries and released.

The Sidney Police Department is requesting the public’s help in identifying the vehicle and driver involved in this incident.

The vehicle is believed to be a white mid-sized sedan.

Anyone who resides in the area of the incident that has home security cameras is asked to check their cameras for possible video of the incident or suspect vehicle.
