Oneonta man arrested after vehicle theft, chase in Norwich

NORWICH — A 38-year-old Oneonta man was arrested Aug. 11 after allegedly stealing a vehicle and leading deputies on a chase through Norwich and into New Berlin.

Justin M. Quackenbush was charged with grand larceny in the third degree, criminal possession of stolen property in the third degree, unlawful fleeing a police officer in the third degree and reckless endangerment in the first degree.

The Chenango County Sheriff’s Office responded to a report of a stolen vehicle at about 11:02 a.m. Aug. 11.

After investigating and speaking with the victim, deputies determined Quackenbush was the suspect.

Deputies located the stolen vehicle traveling in Norwich at about 12:52 p.m.

Deputies initiated a traffic stop, but Quackenbush failed to comply and led deputies on a pursuit through Norwich and into the town of New Berlin.

Quackenbush stopped at the intersection of state highways 23 and 8 in South New Berlin, where he was taken into custody without incident.

He was transported to the Chenango County Sheriff’s Office for processing and arraigned in centralized arraignment.

Quackenbush was remanded to the Chenango County Jail on $10,000 bail.
