MOULTONBOROUGH — A 76-year-old Virginia man drowned in Lake Winnipesaukee near Long Island, New Hampshire State Police said Tuesday.
Forrest Wells was reported missing at 8:19 p.m. Monday after he was believed to have been swimming in the lake.
Multiple agencies conducted an extensive overnight search, including Moultonborough Fire Rescue, Moultonborough Police Department, Tuftonboro Police Department, New Hampshire Fish and Game, and state police troopers.
Wells’ body was recovered near the shoreline at 7:23 a.m. Tuesday.
The death is not considered suspicious and is believed to be an accidental drowning, state police said.
Authorities are continuing to investigate the circumstances surrounding the incident.
