Stamford police arrest man after standoff during search warrant execution

STAMFORD — Police executed a search and seizure warrant at an apartment on Woodside Green on Friday related to an ongoing assault investigation.

During the search, police personnel were met with resistance from within the apartment.

The Department Special Response Team engaged in lengthy negotiations with the individual, identified as Jeffrey Payne.

Payne did not comply with instructions and forcibly interfered with the execution of the warrant.

The Special Response Team utilized measures to influence Payne’s cooperation and he was taken into custody after he exited the apartment and descended the fire escape.

Payne was charged with interference with a search warrant and was held on $5,000 bond.

Details regarding the underlying case will not be released as it remains an ongoing investigation.

In a separate incident Friday at approximately 4 p.m., the Stamford Police Department’s Major Crimes Unit, in coordination with the Special Response Team, conducted an investigation in the area of Summer Street and Bridge Street.

As part of this ongoing investigation, led by the Bureau of Criminal Investigation, an arrest was made.

The suspect was taken into custody without incident, and no injuries were reported.
