COHOES — Dr. Bernard Ng conducted an autopsy of Eli Cid Jr. on Aug. 7 at Ellis Hospital in Schenectady.

The preliminary results indicate the cause of death was severe head trauma due to a self-inflicted gunshot wound.

The manner of death was ruled a suicide.

The autopsy revealed Cid had no additional wounds, confirming he was not struck during an exchange of gunfire with State Police.

The final determination and report are pending further laboratory testing.

The incident began on Aug. 5 when Cohoes police responded to a report of a physical altercation involving a firearm on Remsen Street.

After hours of negotiations, the State Police Special Operations Response Team entered the residence on Aug. 6.

Cid fired multiple shots at police, striking a ballistic shield, before officers returned fire and retreated.

A single gunshot was heard shortly after, and Cid was later found dead inside the home.

No law enforcement officers or community members were injured.

The investigation remains ongoing.
