UTICA — Utica police and fire units were dispatched to the 1000 block of Smith Place on Aug. 5 at approximately 8:10 p.m. regarding an assault investigation.
Upon arrival, they spoke to a victim who stated that he engaged in an argument with individuals regarding garbage being thrown over his fence and into his pool by neighbors.
The victim informed the officers that as the argument escalated, he was repeatedly struck by a party, causing a substantial laceration to his face.
The officers were able to identify the offending party, and he was detained and transported to the Utica Police Department.
The victim was transported to Wynn Hospital for treatment for his injuries.
Due to the victim being over 65 years of age, the case was turned over to the Criminal Investigations Division.
At the conclusion of the investigation, Ashton West, age 18 of Utica, was charged with assault in the second degree.
