WEYMOUTH — Massachusetts State Police investigators arrested two brothers Monday evening in a coordinated narcotics operation that seized more than 5 kilograms of fentanyl and other drugs.

Elijah Tavares and Isaiah Tavares were taken into custody at an apartment complex in Weymouth after investigators from the Commonwealth Interstate Narcotics Reduction Enforcement Teams developed information the suspects would be in possession of a significant quantity of fentanyl.

CINRET-West and CINRET-South teams coordinated efforts to intercept the suspects, establishing surveillance at the Weymouth location with Weymouth Police Department detectives.

Both suspects exited the apartment building simultaneously through separate doors in the late evening.

Elijah Tavares exited the front door and resisted arrest when approached by troopers.

After a struggle, Elijah Tavares was taken into custody while in possession of fentanyl and cocaine packaged for distribution.

Isaiah Tavares exited the rear door of the building and was arrested with over 1 kilogram of fentanyl concealed in the front pocket of his sweatshirt.

A search warrant executed on the dwelling used by the Tavares brothers and three associated vehicles discovered 4.5 kilograms of fentanyl, approximately 46 grams of cocaine, two loaded firearms with ammunition, a large amount of cash and several pounds of marijuana.

Both brothers were booked at State Police Norwell on multiple narcotics and assault charges.

The operation involved State Police members assigned to CINRET, the Troop D Community Action Team, the Norwell Barracks, the MSP Air Wing and Weymouth Police Department detectives.
