SPRINGFIELD — Members of the Springfield Police Firearms Investigation Unit seized a loaded firearm and arrested two juveniles Wednesday inside an apartment on the 200 block of Dickinson Street.
Detectives had been conducting an illegal firearm investigation for several months with a 16-year-old juvenile male as a suspect.
On Wednesday, detectives received information that the suspect and another 16-year-old male were in possession of a firearm.
Detectives applied for and were granted a search warrant for the Dickinson Street apartment.
Around 9:10 p.m., detectives executed the warrant.
The two 16-year-olds were detained along with two adult females who were later released.
Six children ranging in ages from 2 to 14 were also inside the home.
During the search, detectives recovered a loaded firearm inside the 16-year-old’s bedroom.
Both 16-year-old suspects were placed under arrest.
Due to their ages, their names, booking photos and specific charges will not be released.
