MONROE — Two Brooklyn men were arrested Aug. 4 for allegedly impersonating FBI agents and defrauding a victim of $15,000, New York State Police said.
Wei Baoguo, 34, and Yu Sheng Gui, 38, both of Brooklyn, were charged with grand larceny in the third degree, a Class D felony, according to the State Police Bureau of Criminal Investigation.
The preliminary investigation determined that the suspects contacted a 27-year-old victim and falsely claimed to be FBI agents.
The suspects told the victim he needed to pay $15,000 or he would be arrested, police said.
The victim agreed to meet with the suspects and provided the requested amount of money.
Following the transaction, Baoguo and Gui were located and apprehended later that same day.
Baoguo and Gui were arraigned at City of Newburgh Court on Aug. 5 and both were released on their own recognizance.
They both have a future court date at Blooming Grove Town Court on Sept. 4 at 10 a.m.
The investigation is ongoing.
