MANCHESTER — A 29-year-old Manchester man was arrested Monday evening after police say he committed multiple burglaries, assaulted an elderly woman with a pipe and stole a vehicle.

Manchester Police responded to a report of a burglary in progress at 95 Faltin Drive shortly before 5 p.m. on Aug. 4.

As officers began investigating, a second report came in about a possible suspect running through a yard near 50 Purchase Street.

Officers spotted a man matching the suspect’s description walking near Motor Cycles of Manchester.

The man, identified as Zacharie Hart of Manchester, attempted to run but was quickly taken into custody.

Around the same time, officers located an unoccupied crashed vehicle at the dead end of Baker Street near the Queen City Avenue rail trail.

The vehicle appeared to have been driven through the dead end but was stopped by bollards and posted signs.

A metal pipe was found inside the vehicle.

Shortly after Hart’s arrest, police received another report of an armed burglary and car theft on Marguerite Street.

In that incident, an elderly woman was assaulted with a pipe, a second individual was also attacked, and a vehicle was stolen and later crashed into a parked car.

After obtaining video footage from multiple sources, police determined Hart was the suspect in all of the incidents.

Hart is charged with two counts of burglary, armed robbery, first degree assault with a deadly weapon, attempted first degree assault with a deadly weapon, two counts of conduct after an accident, two counts of felony criminal mischief, reckless conduct with a deadly weapon, violation of bail conditions, and being a felon in possession of a dangerous weapon.
