HOMER — New York State Police arrested a 31-year-old Cortland woman July 28 on charges of falsifying business records and petit larceny.

Hailey Sweeney faces two counts each of the misdemeanor charges following an investigation into fraudulent transactions at Sherwin Williams stores.

Troopers were contacted by loss prevention personnel from Sherwin Williams after they discovered inconsistencies with several transactions.

The company’s investigation determined that Sweeney, while working as an employee at Sherwin Williams locations in Cortland and Ithaca, made fraudulent returns and stole money between April and July.

The total loss to the company was just over $890.

Sweeney was issued appearance tickets to Cortlandville Town Court on Sept. 8 and Ithaca City Court on Sept. 5.
