CARMEL — Two county residents have been arrested after separate investigations into internet child pornography, Putnam County Sheriff Kevin J. McConville announced.
In April, Sheriff’s Office investigators were alerted by the New York State Police Internet Crimes Against Children Task Force of a cyber tip related to sexually explicit videos and images being transmitted from residences in Putnam County.
An intensive investigation was begun, which included gathering computer forensic evidence through subpoenas.
On June 12, a search warrant was executed at the residence of 55-year-old Richard Schwabedissen of Carmel, who was interviewed and charged with three counts of Promoting a Sexual Performance by a Child Under the Age of Seventeen, and three counts of Possessing a Sexual Performance by a Child Under the Age of Sixteen, both felonies.
He was arraigned in the Town of Carmel Court, where he was released on his own recognizance to return at a future court date.
On June 19, investigators arrested Alex Jimenez Cochancela, 24, of Carmel.
He was charged with one count of Promoting a Sexual Performance by a Child Under the Age of Seventeen, and one count of Possessing a Sexual Performance by a Child Under the Age of Sixteen, both felonies.
He was arraigned in the Town of Carmel Court, where bail was set at $50,000 cash or $100,000 bond.
