Milford man arrested on child rape, pornography charges

MILFORD — A 29-year-old Milford man was arrested Friday morning on multiple charges including rape of a child with force and possession of child pornography following a joint operation by local and federal authorities.

Manuel Umana Solorzano was taken into custody at approximately 5:43 a.m. after fleeing on foot from his residence at 16 Court Square, according to the Milford Police Department.

The operation began at approximately 4:10 a.m. when the Milford Police Detective Bureau, working with the Massachusetts State Police Violent Fugitive Apprehension Section and the United States Marshals Service, initiated surveillance to apprehend Umana Solorzano.

At approximately 5:41 a.m., detectives and marshals observed Umana Solorzano exit his residence and approach a waiting Ford Transit van.

As the multi-agency task force moved in, Umana Solorzano fled on foot toward North Bow Street, with Milford Police detectives pursuing him into the backyard of a residence.

The pursuit ended when Umana Solorzano turned toward a detective, assumed a fighting stance and reached for his waistband, police said.

After ignoring repeated commands to stop, he was tased and taken into custody without further incident.

Umana Solorzano was booked at the Milford Police Department at 5:49 a.m. and was scheduled to be arraigned at Milford District Court later Friday.

He faces charges including indecent assault and battery on a child under 14, possession of child pornography, reckless endangerment of a child, photographing sexual or intimate parts of a child, statutory rape of a child with a five-year age difference, rape of a child with force, lascivious pose/exhibit child in nude, and resisting arrest.
