MONROE — A Pomona man was sentenced to 33 months in federal prison following his conviction for possession of a firearm as a felon and possession with the intent to distribute fentanyl.
Jonathan Martinez, 25, was sentenced Wednesday by Judge Kenneth Karas in connection with an April disturbance in the Village of Monroe and fentanyl possession in October, according to the Monroe Police Department.
The investigation began April 23 when Monroe Police officers responded to a report of a disturbance in the area of Barnett Road West.
Officers observed several individuals fleeing the area on foot, including Martinez.
A search of the scene led to the recovery of a firearm.
DNA analysis conducted by the New York State Police Forensic Laboratory identified Martinez’s DNA on the firearm.
Martinez was arrested and later charged federally with possession of a firearm.
The case was prosecuted by Assistant United States Attorney Kathryn Wheelock of the Southern District of New York.
The Monroe Police Department coordinated with the Federal Bureau of Investigation and the United States Attorney’s Office for the Southern District of New York in the case.
