NORTH HAVEN — Police arrested a 19-year-old New York man after he allegedly stole items from Dick’s Sporting Goods and fled on foot yesterday afternoon.

Officers received a call at approximately 2:50 p.m. about two Hispanic males who had exited the store after stealing items.

One suspect fled in a vehicle while another fled on foot.

A regional traffic enforcement group with more than 12 officers was conducting operations on Universal Drive when the call came in.

The officers had conducted over 100 car stops that day as part of the enforcement campaign.

Police quickly apprehended Mizael Esqueche after a brief foot pursuit.

Esqueche has been charged with fourth-degree larceny and interfering with police.

The second suspect, who left in a vehicle, has been identified and police will seek a warrant for their arrest.
