3 men arrested after altercation in Moretown

MORETOWN — Three men from out of state were arrested Tuesday evening following a physical altercation that began in Waterbury and led to a traffic stop on Vermont Route 100.

Vermont State Police received a report at approximately 6:04 p.m. that two males were involved in a physical altercation and left the scene in a black Mazda CX-5 bearing Texas registration in Waterbury.

Troopers stopped the vehicle and conducted an investigation that revealed multiple violations.

Diego Espitia, 23, of Indianapolis, Indiana, was arrested for domestic assault and disorderly conduct after police determined he assaulted a household member and engaged in fighting in a public place.

Espitia was transported to the Berlin Barracks for processing and subsequently lodged at Northeast Correctional Complex on $1,500 cash bail with court-ordered conditions of release.

He was issued a criminal citation to appear in Vermont Superior Court, Washington County, Criminal Division on July 30 at 12:30 p.m.

Fernando Espitia Jr., 27, of Indianapolis, Indiana, was also determined to have engaged in fighting in a public place.

He was released with a criminal citation to appear in Vermont Superior Court, Washington County, Criminal Division on Aug. 14 at 8:30 a.m. to answer to a charge of disorderly conduct.

Christian M. Alvarez, 33, of Brownsville, Texas, was identified as the operator of the vehicle.

While speaking with troopers, Alvarez displayed signs of impairment and was arrested for suspicion of DUI – drugs.

Alvarez was transported to Berlin Police Department for processing and issued a criminal citation to appear in Vermont Superior Court, Washington County, Criminal Division.
